Overview
Windshear scenarios encountered in B777 simulator training, including escape maneuver practice, recognition cues, and common errors.
RQ 3 Windshear Scenario
- Phase: Crosswind takeoff, windshear encounter after rotation
- Response: Escape maneuver — “WINDSHEAR TOGA”, max thrust, pitch 15°
- Common error: Attempting to recover airspeed instead of maintaining pitch
Key Training Points
- Recognize windshear within 5 seconds
- “Trade airspeed for altitude” — do NOT lower the nose to recover speed
- Maintain wings level for maximum climb performance
- Do NOT change gear/flap configuration during escape
