ELEC GEN DRIVE L, R
π Sources: QRH 6.4 (R53), FCOM 6.30.1
1. QRH Reference & Condition
- QRH Section: 6.4
- EICAS Level: Advisory
- Condition: A generator drive fault occurs.
2. Non-Normal Checklist
CAUTION
Action is irreversible.
| Step | Action |
|---|---|
| 1 | DRIVE DISC switch (affected side) β¦ Confirm β¦ Push and hold for 1 second |
3. System Explanation
The DRIVE light illuminates when low oil pressure is detected in an IDG. This indicates an IDG mechanical fault β continued operation risks IDG seizure and engine damage. (FCOM 6.20.1)
Key Points:
- High drive oil temperature causes automatic IDG disconnect (no crew action needed)
- Low oil pressure requires crew decision to disconnect
- IDG cannot be reconnected by the flight crew β requires maintenance action on the ground
- After disconnect, the affected main bus transfers to an available source (APU, opposite IDG via bus tie)
4. FCTM Recommended Techniques
- If DRIVE light illuminates, plan for single-generator operations
- Monitor electrical synoptic for proper bus tie transfer
- APU start recommended for redundancy
