CAUTION

Action is irreversible.

StepAction
1DRIVE DISC switch (affected side) … Confirm … Push and hold for 1 second

3. System Explanation

The DRIVE light illuminates when low oil pressure is detected in an IDG. This indicates an IDG mechanical fault β€” continued operation risks IDG seizure and engine damage. (FCOM 6.20.1)

Key Points:

  • High drive oil temperature causes automatic IDG disconnect (no crew action needed)
  • Low oil pressure requires crew decision to disconnect
  • IDG cannot be reconnected by the flight crew β€” requires maintenance action on the ground
  • After disconnect, the affected main bus transfers to an available source (APU, opposite IDG via bus tie)
  • If DRIVE light illuminates, plan for single-generator operations
  • Monitor electrical synoptic for proper bus tie transfer
  • APU start recommended for redundancy
