Overview
The B777 uses a fly-by-wire flight control system managed by three Primary Flight Computers (PFC L/C/R). Pilot inputs are transmitted electrically to hydraulic actuators on all primary and secondary flight control surfaces.
Primary Flight Controls
| Surface | Actuators | Hydraulic System |
|---|---|---|
| Ailerons (L/R) | 2 each | L + C (outboard), C + R (inboard) |
| Elevators (L/R) | 2 each | L + R (outboard), L + C (inboard) |
| Rudder (Upper/Lower) | 3 total | L, C, R |
Secondary Flight Controls
- Spoilers: 7 panels per wing (ground and flight spoilers)
- Flaps: Leading edge slats + trailing edge flaps (powered by Center hydraulic)
- Horizontal Stabilizer: Electric trim + manual trim wheel
Operating Modes
- Normal Mode: Full fly-by-wire envelope protection (PFC operational)
- Secondary Mode: Reduced envelope protection (partial PFC loss)
- Direct Mode: Direct link between control column and actuators (all PFC lost)
