GE90 Engine Overview (B777)
1. Overview
The B777 is powered by two GE90 (or PW/RR depending on the exact variant) high-bypass turbofan engines. A Severe Damage condition implies catastrophic internal failure or separation, severely affecting aerodynamics and hydraulic/electrical systems on the affected side.
2. Components Affected by Severe Damage
- Hydraulic System: Engine-driven pump (EDP) is lost. Backup systems (Demand Pumps) must operate.
- Electrical System: Backup Generator and Main Generator on the affected engine will drop offline. APU or Cross-tie required.
- Pneumatics/Bleed Air: Loss of bleed air from the affected engine. Asymmetry in anti-ice capabilities.
3. Controls and Indicators
- Panel: Forward Aisle Stand (Fuel Control), Glare Shield (Fire Switches)
- EICAS Messages:
ENG FAIL L/RENG THRUST L/R[Related Hydraulic / Electrical faults]
4. Limitations
- FCOM Ref: FCOM Vol 1, L.10
- Max Altitude limits with Single Engine: Check Max Altitudes
- Asymmetric thrust limits on landing.
